Vitamins stimulate the work of immune system cells, stimulating the cells responsible for the protection of the entire body. Their proper level should be taken care of throughout the year. The immune system protects the body from harmful pathogens. As a result of various factors, we may be at risk of deficiencies of many ingredients. Therefore, it is worth taking care of the right level of vitamins and minerals throughout the year. Find out which compounds ensure the proper functioning of the immune system!
Which vitamins strengthen immunity?
Immunity is a set of mechanisms that protect the body against harmful pathogens: viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi and support cell synthesis. Remember that the fundamental elements of building immunity are a balanced, wholesome diet, adequate sleep and regular physical activity. A deficiency of essential nutrients increases susceptibility to infections. Therefore, throughout the year, especially in autumn and winter, it is worth supporting the body with compounds that have a beneficial effect on the immune system.
Which vitamins for immunity will be the best solution?
Vitamin C – is also known as ascorbic acid. The substance participates in numerous metabolic processes. It is a strong antioxidant that helps fight free radicals. In addition, it supports the immune system by stimulating the production of white blood cells such as lymphocytes and phagocytes, which fight infections. Vitamin C ensures proper calcium and phosphate metabolism (it is one of the components of vitamins for teeth). Its action also focuses on maintaining healthy blood vessels by supporting collagen production and on the absorption of iron from food. It should be noted that the human body is not able to produce vitamin C on its own.
Vitamin D – often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin”, belongs to the group of compounds necessary for the proper functioning of the human body. Its largest source is solar radiation – it is able to cover as much as 90% of the daily demand. In Poland, from September to April, skin synthesis of natural vitamin D practically does not occur, which is why it is estimated that its deficiency may affect up to 90% of people. Therefore, in order to provide the body with the right amount of vitamin D, it is worth taking care of its supply by taking ready-made preparations.
B vitamins – are responsible for the proper functioning of the vascular and nervous systems. They support the condition of the skin, mucous membranes and muscles. It is worth reaching primarily for vitamin B6, B9 (folic acid) and B12. B vitamins can be found, for example, in legumes – soybeans, beans, peas. Pork liver, veal liver and dairy products are also a rich source.
Vitamin E – has high biological activity. It supports the immune system and affects a number of metabolic processes in the body. Vitamin E is important for the proper wound healing process. Thanks to its antioxidant potential, it helps fight the effects of excessive UV radiation on the skin. In addition, it plays an important role for the reproductive system of women and men – it takes part in the process of ovulation and sperm production. Sources of vitamin E include, m.in, egg yolks, olive oil, almonds, avocados, oily sea fish and vegetables (spinach, broccoli, tomato, pepper and lettuce).
Natural vitamins for immunity
When reaching for preparations to strengthen immunity, it is worth choosing those based on natural plant extracts and extracts. They help to stimulate the immune system in a natural way, protecting against the entry of pathogens and the development of infections. Natural preparations for strengthening the body include:
Omega acids – natural sources of omega acids are primarily: good quality fish oil, oily sea fish, cold-pressed oils, nuts and almonds;
Herbs for immunity – we can choose from a wide range of plants that are an excellent source of vitamins, have antioxidant properties and have antibacterial properties. These are, m.in, elderberry, rosehip, cistus, aloe vera, ginseng;
Natural “antibiotics” – in the fight against infections, natural plants that can be found in every kitchen are irreplaceable. These include garlic, onion, turmeric and oregano;
Natural probiotics – these are live microorganisms (mainly bacteria) that have a beneficial effect on the health of the body, especially the balance of the intestinal bacterial flora. They support digestive processes and strengthen the immune system. Natural sources of probiotics include: dairy products (yoghurts, kefirs, buttermilk), kvass, kombucha, fermented cheeses and fermented vegetables (pickled cucumbers, onions and garlic).
Recurrent infections that take a local or generalized form are an indication for immunological tests, which will provide very valuable information related to the state of immunity and the immune response to a given disease. These include, m.in, IgG, IgA, IgM and IgE antibody analysis, lymphocyte level testing, cytokine testing or allergy tests. The list of necessary tests will depend on the type of illness you have suffered, so the details should be discussed with your doctor.
